Feral Pigs Come Home To Poop

Alas, it has come to the moment we've all been waiting for -- the pigs have not only come home to poop, but they're pooping all over each other in Wendy McCaw's front yard.

News-Press founder T. M. Storke isn't just rolling in his grave, Wendy and Travis are twisting the spit of his dessicated corpse over an open flame, to the frightening, sickening delight of the insullated few.

Ya just can't greet these feral beasts, non-native to the environment, with goodwill any longer. They clearly have no respect for it, and why should we expect that they will respect their good fortune?

There are a few reasons that I moved away from Santa Barbara, and BlogaBarbara:

1). I felt that the site's original activist origins needed, and did, change in a direction that was more appropriate for a long-term voice on the Central Coast.

2). I went from holly-go-lightly single bon-vivant to happily married family man who no longer had the time to give a flying eff what BS McCaw, and Armstrong, and Falcone, and all these other inheritors of privilege were cooking up to screw the average Santa Barbarian out of housing, livelihood, and home, and...

3). To do so, I had to move to NoCo. You try feeding five mouths and making a mortgage payment -- hell, rent! -- in Santa Barbara. Do I love NoCo? No. But I love my family, and it makes me sick to my stomach -- one issue for us at BB for quite some time.

By the way, dear Barbarians, how about this sweet blast from the past? Travisty in his own words from April 2005 in the SB-NRP:

Did I miss some great Santa Barbara blogs during my Web surf? The ones I've seen so far are like Fox News, all opinion and reacting but no reporting. They just tell people what they want to hear.
Funny, he pegged the current paper he "publishes" except for one small fact, mister FacstWrong: he's not telling people what they want to hear, he's telling people what he and the monied interests who own the paper wants to hear...their own words and opinions ad naseuem.

Before you kill the messenger I must note: this blog has no advertising, makes no money, and has value only to those who choose to read it. We are not the (once) paper of record for the county. We are all editorial.

But the SB-NRP has truly sunk into the editorial gutters of Montecito. Living Wage? Screw You! You should commute from Lompoc to serve us -- the elite -- our delicious choco-lattes.

Affordable housing as you serve us? Screw You! We've have our mansions! Drive, bitches.

Can't afford a five-dollar cup of coffee and a cookie from Pierre Lafonde? Let polly eat a cracker! McCaaaaaaw!!!

But don't dare publish Rob Lowe's maybe perhaps sometime-in-the-future-but-really-not-address. Hell no!

Do you have an SB address while you serve my foie-gras?

Uh no, sorry... Too effing bad!

You publish MY drunk driving arrest after a hot night of schmoozing at the Baccara? Hell no! How dare you! You're fired!

You can barely afford to feed your kids Chef-Boy-Ardee while living in a slum, serving me Foie Gras, and can't even get beach access near the Baccara? Yawn.

Oh, well..........

Welcome to the new Santa Barbara. Everything that brought the rich here, art, music, beauty, culture, performance and an esoteric diverse community, are dwindling.

Oprah, where are you? If you would like to start a debate about the haves and have-nots in America, you can start, quite literally, in your own backyard.

But really, I'm just a knee-jerk Travis-hater, right?

If feral pigs and Rob Lowe's ostensible future address are more important than people, real people, who live and breathe right here and have this waste of trees called the Santa Barbara News-Press thrust on their doorsteps each morning, then the News-Press should find failure at the bottom of the bankruptcy court docket.

I'm ashamed, extremely ashamed, that this blog was "ahead of the curve" -- it means that I've failed.

Once, I knew and loved you, Santa Barbara. I guess it's true, people get what they pay for. And sometimes, they just plain get sold down Mission Creek.

Lost Cannon has lost it. He/she's all metaphor and no meat.

Yeah. We know that Travis doesn't want a second story run about his DUI arrest. Neither would you. And, it's not news anyway. NewsPress did post a story on May 9. It was the second story that was nixed.

And, yeah. Rob Lowe apparently complanined about having his address published, and Wendy came down with a heavy hand.

That's it? For all the belly-aching that goes on, there out to be more that's bugging you guys. It looks like some of you just don't like Travis's
opinions. Well, guess what, you promoters of democracy? Some of us do! Add to that the fact that he's one of the few columnists in town brave enough to take a stance against the development machine, and his views and reporting are extremely valuable.

Sure, no-growthers who drive gas-hogs and are causing the melting of the world ice-caps love Travis, and they hate the traffic from all the other gas-hog drivers. Indeed, what did Travis do while drunk? Get in his car and melt a little more ice-cap.

Hate housing and its impacts? Good. Raze your home and remediate it to the original south coast environment and endow a fund to keep the land where your old house stood pristine in perpetuity... put your money where your mouth is.

In reality the south coast no-growthers are overwhelming hypocrites. They will make any argument imaginable to maintain their destructive livestyle of profligate resource consumption.

So in conclusion, high-density housing is good, Travis is the one melting the ice-cap while drunk driving, people that disagree with you should burn their house down and give all of their equity away for they are the ones causing the problem with their exclusivley destructive lifestyle.

Good job. Nice tactful argument with solid points. I'm sold.

High density housing is bad, but not as bad as low density housing.

Yup... it is all about equity. That is all the no-growthers care about, their own money; that is why they are peas in a pod with the developers.

Certainly they aren't the only ones who are environmentally destructive, but they are among the most hypocritical.

No, it is not a tactful argument. About as tactful as Sally Jordan comparing California to Hitler, or Judith Ishkanian calling high density housing ghettos, or Gary Earle saying high density housing in Goleta will be crime ridden.

The only people who should consider razing their homes are those who rant and rave about the evils of development; they can contribute a lot to the local environment by remdiating their property to its pristine natural state, why not?

Oh, I know what you mean. Low density housing is the scourge of the earth. I think of all those poor saps in Hope Ranch with their low density homes, or worse yet America's Breadbasket, with acres of farmland before you see the next house. It's downright evil.

The only people who should consider razing their homes are those who rant and rave about the evils of development; they can contribute a lot to the local environment by remdiating their property to its pristine natural state, why not?

So anybody that is against further development should burn their homes down, But wouldn't that decrease the density in an area, making the remaining neighborhood low-density?

Certainly they aren't the only ones who are environmentally destructive, but they are among the most hypocritical.

I would gladly sign up for being called hypocritical if it would save Santa Barbara from turning into LA.

Yup, when densities are low there is *HUGE* consumption of gasoline and its contribution to pollution, global warming, and world political instability... yes, all of Haldeman's buddies in Hope Ranch are so admirable... every great fortune is built upon a great crime.... many Hope Ranchers are IV landlords who profit on the squalor they maintain.

It is not high density housing that would turn SB into LA, but the car-crazy behavior of the Santa Barbarans who live in the homes. What people like you really mean is that you want to drive like an LA person but not have traffic like LA. From my perspective you already have turned SB into LA by driving so much! Census data shows that SB has the highest driving per capita of any suburban area in the State.. what hypocrisy.

And by the way, don't burn down your house... that would cause global warming. Carefully disassemble it so the materials can be used to build nice green eco-friendly high density housing. When all the hyperconsumers and hyper car drivers in the Goleta Valley do that, we can have way more open space and we can build a much more livable environment.

And don't forget to donate the remediated land to the Land Trust, then we can really have an environment that is *nothing like an LA suburb*. Actually, when I ride my bike around Goleta I often think I'm in the San Fernando Valley... but to change the environment to mostly openspace surrounding complexes of high density housing... that would not be like LA at all! Join us!
