Sidewalk Shuffle for Starshine

Craig Smith reports on Travis' encounter with Starshine Roshell outside the News-Press offices....here's a comment from "susano" -- not clear there is recourse here (and don't think it's important in the grander scheme of things) but it's an interesting question:

"Craig Smith reports that Starshine Roshell was recently standing in front of the News-Press building saying goodbye after lunch with a former co-worker. Travis told her to "get off the premises" and sent a security guard to take her "off the property."

My question to all of you is that isn't the sidewalk in De la Guerra plaza public property? And doesn't Starshine have legal recourse to sue Travis and the News-Press for this threatening behaviour? Just wondering...."

I wondered the same thing when I first read it on Craig's blog. It probably depends on whether Starshine was actually standing on News-Press property vs. being on the sidewalk. But either way, it's hard to fathom Travis' behavior. Sounds like something a petulant junior high school newspaper editor might do, not an adult. Sad.

I bet you hope so.

What is the prupose of this blog?

Probably no recourse, but it does show what a small and petty thing Travis is. How pathetic a man do you have to be to feel threatened by Starshine?

But he is a guy who largely hides in his office and rains invectives on his and Wendy's perceived enemies. If he had the courage to print letters with which he or Wendy disagreed you might respect him, even a little. But no.

If he weren't so loathesome I'd pity him.

NO! And they should change the name to De La Homeless Plaza!

Get over it, Starshine. You and others are bullying the NP owners and management. If they don't want you around, I think you could understand why. Sounds like Travis was asking you to leave. That's fair enough since you don't work there anymore and have been actively bad-mouthing the place.

Would you rather have a restraining order? Of course you would, because then you could claim to be the victim again.

You made your choice to quit your job. Live with it.

No, I don't work there.

No, actually, all of De La Guerra Plaza and most of El Paseo belong to the News-Press. Escrow closed last week.

Sure, she could sue. This is America. You can sue anyone for anything at anytime.

But should she?

Quite honestly, Travis did her a great big favor. Starshine ought to send him a great big basket chock full of gourmet delights from Trader Joe's.

She'll finally have something worth writing about. Maybe we all should send Travis gourmet goodie baskets for sparing us from another one of Starshine's pieces pondering dental floss, perky nipples or which football team has the better color scheme.

Court? Over a sidewalk altercation? Nahh. Who cares, let Travis be the "Sidewalk King". Pffft. Just shows he has nothing better to do - there's no local news written by SBNP leftover staff to edit!

1:45 PM -- it wasn't my question or even my blog that originally brought up the story. This is news...and somewhat interesting.

See how many people have commented so far? In any event -- if you don't like what we cover, go somewhere else or don't comment -- or better yet, start your own blog and I'll cover that and give you free press. It's about the conversation...join in if you like, but you don't have to.

I didn't say that she SHOULD sue. I just wondered if it was LEGAL to use a security guard to threaten a law abiding individual. And it just seemed that Travis was leaving both himself and the News-Press very vulnerable if Starshine perchance decided to follow
Wendy's "sue whenever I possible can" example. Plus, I'm pretty horrified that our daily paper used its hired muscle to intimidate someone who isn't breaking any laws just because they don't like them.

Absolutely hilarious! Starshine Roshell is bullying Wendy McCaw and Arthur VW!!! LOL!!!!!! And "the others" do so also!!!!!!

Given Ms McCaw's apparent love of her frequent status as plaintiff, it certainly looks as though she's the bully! Either that or she has a fixation on lawyers.

Hopefully, Starshine doesn't share that same propensity and does not sue - unless, of course, she was threatened or genuinely felt threatened.

There are a couple of comments I've not published -- sorry about that but there are some areas that I don't think we should be discussing here.

"or better yet, start your own blog" I've seen a new blog. The focus on another blogger and political agenda. I don't even want to go there.

"What is the prupose of this blog?" asks anon. 1:45 pm. Well, I don't know what the "prupose" is, but the PURPOSE seems fairly obvious: to provide a forum for open discussion on matters that are of interest to many Santa Barbarans, or at least those of us who choose to read &/or actively participate in this blog. All you have to do is scan through the archives to see that's true. But perhaps you weren't being serious & your question was simply an attempt to throw off the current discussion. ;-)

It is strange this behavior.
But then strange seems to be the behavior of Wendy.

Good grief! Sometimes I think Travis Armstrong is the worst thing to happen to Santa Barbara in some time. If he had not made an appearance with his mean-spirited vindictive not-Santa Barbara attitude, perhaps Wendy would have just gone along publishing cute animal stories and being appropriately against the Iraq war. That would have been great.

orangstar -- thanks for chiming in. I by no means want to make it seem like she made a big deal about it with this post. There is a high smug alert here as it is and it is something I'm very conscious of....support from BlogaBarbara readers in this area is always welcome.

harping -- thanks for pointing that out as well.

7:11 -- I guess strange is in the eye of the beholder, no?

Craig Smith just reported:
"Dawn Hobbs, Barney McManigal and Rob Kuznia, Fired From the News-Press." It's hard to feel shocked by this expected news but still... Now is there anyone left at the N-P who knows how to report a story?

SDLG,

Can we start a write in campaign for Keith Olbermann's show to name Wendy and Travis the Worst Person(s) in the World?

I think this might be worthy of a seperate thread.

Travis just says "can't we all just 'cease and desist'? What happens if the NLRB and the judge on SLAPP-shot rule against the NP [how dare they!]? Is it more of the anti-Wendy cabal?, do they appeal, delare a 'ruling against me free zone' or as $omone above the law, do they really have to put up with these ingrates? Where's Ty or Rick Caruso on this matter? Stay strong Sara and SB!

Wineguy, thanks for the clarification of your earlier post which had me worried too! Yes, a sarcasm alert is a good idea when you're suggesting anything that may not be a rational possibility...after all, Mrs. McCaw's actions re: the N-P have not seemed rational to many of us for quite awhile. And she may still have the money to snap up DLG Plaza & El Paseo, so please don't give her any ideas. ;-)
