Resource Team to Tackle Gangs
There is a new strategic plan to tackle the gang problem in Santa Barbara outlined in The Daily Sound. Resource teams are being created to identify and work with gang identified youth in our schools. Saying they can't wait, Santa Barbara Police Chief Cam Sanchez says they will start this work before the school breaks for the summer.

Taking a look at the actual known gang members and dealing with each of them individually with a meaningful specific action plan for each of them is a great new way to approach this endemic problem.
No one size fits all solution works here and this is a far better to isolate when necessary, divert where appropriate, and prevent when possible.
I wish the city well. Just letting the pain spread and repeating failed programs was not working. It is a problem of crime affecting individuals first, and not a collective "gang" problem in general.
This sounds good. I'm not a social worker, but I can't imagine anything but good coming from individual attention. This will be slow going, but there's not a quick fix for this.
a picture says a thousand words. The photo from the DS on the cover, showing the roundtable participants was kind of astonishing---almost all male, mostly white, mostly, well......kinda past their prime..............
I'm crossing fingers, and hoping high for this new strategy. Good luck to those involved-- especially the kids.
