Are you a cabalista? Senator Boxer is...

The list grows longer....Senator Barbara Boxer joined the anti-News-Press cabal at a Santa Barbara Women's Political Committee event according to Off-Leash Public Affairs. Welcome!

Also, the last showing of the News-Press Mess documentary Citizen McCaw will be today at Marjorie Luke Theater at 3 pm.

As shown in the video, the Senator was remarking about how many different news and information distribution methods now exist and should be used by political activists, including pitching stories to the local newspaper and starting a new one if necessary.

The cable TV-17 replay schedule is at the show website, and the video is viewable forever on the Internets.

Wow, I'm shocked, shocked that Boxer has joined Blum, and Rose, and Capps, and......all the other Dem lemmings in opposing the N-P.

Does anyone else recognize the irony? The Dem Party supposedly represents the free-thinking and open-minded, yet they all rush to stick together like a bunch of Stepford wives.

We must oppose the News-Press. We must oppose the News-Press. We must oppose the News-Press. We must.....

Gee, Bill Carson, I missed that part when I viewed that referenced video of Senator Barbara Boxer speaking here.

Just like your idol Travis Armstrong, you are full of opinion and complaint without bothering to have any facts or evidence about the subject even when the source is on local TV many times.

Mr. Carson, the N-P is not really a Rorschach test, or a terribly difficult set of circumstances to analyze. It's about as close to good versus evil as it gets in this gray world. Management at the N-P has proven itself dishonest, oppressive, hypocritical and at least two-faced, as it attempts to ruin a local treasure. We can debate all day long about the relative quality of the paper during various eras, but now there is little question that McCaw is prepared to, and is acting as if she wants to, destroy the paper and peoples' careers in the process. The mass exodus of staff, the repeat findings of dissembling by upper management, the ethical claims by McCaw et al that are in fact contradicted in practice (as again, proven in several proceedings in which the N-P is embroiled), the repeat trampling on the labor rights of the employees, and the utter vindictiveness and vitriol constantly spewing from the paper (both in the paper and in internal communications) leave one hard put, if one is objective and not blind to rights in competition with those of the entrepreneurial godhead, to see management's side of things.

If I want the latest on pets (dogs, cats, birds & fish) I turn to the pages of the News Press. For all local other news, I turn to the Daily Sound.

Mr. You're Kidding, city hall is not really a Rorschach test, or a terribly difficult set of individuals to analyze. Most elected politicians have proven themselves dishonest, oppressive, hypocritical and at least two-faced, as them attempt to ruin our local community. We can debate all day long about the relative quality of our politicians and the politicians during various eras, but.......I think you get the point.

Keep attacking Travis. And keep defending the real "bad guys".

It must just kill the mass-exoders to see the paper is still functioning without them. Rent your hyperbolic writing skills out by the hour somewhere else, after you pick another topic. Stick a fork in it folks, this topic is done.

Don't know what an "exoder" is.

I watched that video of Barbara Boxer just now, easy to do as it is on four times a week.

It is a fabulous production and a fantastic public service to make these available so easily to the public.

Keep up the good work.

Hey Sara--- I don't know how the heck to send you an email but I wanted to suggest a post:

The California Coastal Commission is going to be holding their April meeting HERE in SB at the County Board of Sups room: April 9-April 11. Here is their online agenda: http://www.coastal.ca.gov/mtgcurr.html

The public is encouraged to come watch this rare opportunity to see this important board in action--and to offer public comment on issues vital to our coastline---coastal access, offshore oil, goleta beach, the Bacara outlaws---- I haven't seen this publicized much so thought maybe you could help

Yo, lokal yokal. Define "functioning," please. If you mean the NP still puts out, well yeah, okay. But so do the hookers on Haley: difference is they're honest about what they're doing to Santa Barbara.

Nope, it's not done yet yokal, just slow grillin. You forked some sushi, not tr-tip.

I'm with Bill Carson.

N-P is the only major source to report on Janet Wolf breaking campaign promises and the Lemocrats bring in Boxer to add weight to their local agenda. Good-bye democracy. Have you become comfortably numb?

We need the N-P now more than ever.
We need the Travis more than ever.

My lord Yokal,

All would be well if t'were done.

Alas, it cannot be 'till yon billionaire in fetid news tower says it is so.

If you have sworn loyalty to the queen, then surly it is your self who is appointed and duty bound to
serve the undead! It is you who must bow and scrape at her insatiable and deathless command!

Yet neither do those of us who claim the fair right of law and custom to speak our minds without fear of endless prosecution to the full extent of her wretched money rest easy in temporal repose.

We shall again speak like Babel - seeking certainty above all else that while we breathe we are still able!

Whatcha think Yokal? Do I get the gig?

Mr. Carson, there are a few differences here between the NP's reflexive vitriol heaped on all City of SB officials, and that which the NP's own management deserves. To wit, virtually all neutral tribunals, including private arbitrators like former Supreme Court Justice Eagleson, and two NLRB judges, and one set of courts upholding the Coastal Commission, and soon others, have found and will find McCaw, and/or Armstrong and/or Steepleton to have lied under oath; McCaw, Steepleton and Armstrong all twice thus far. Blatantly and for malicious purposes. And with the consequence that the NP's claims and defenses have been tossed out as equally incredible and not worthy of merit. And with the further consequence that management is deemed to have illegally trampled on employees' and (in the Eagleson case) contracting partner's rights. And now, who're the "bad guys"?

You and the SB slanderers and journalistically-challenged androids may disagree with what the City is doing and has done, but the dishonesty and hypocrisy are not spewing forth, and no tribunal that I'm aware of has slammed the City for dishonesty and malice the way several have with respect to the News-Press, all to the injury of law-abiding employees and business owners. Is it OK, Bill, to threaten shopkeepers who dare to place First Amendment-protected signs in their windows? Is Wendy, the lawbreaker, the only person with First Amendment rights? You'd think so, judging from her behavior.

And by the way, I appreciate your attempt at flattery via plagiarism, but you should be grateful I'm not connected with NP management, because such word "theft" of the type you perpetrated would buy you at least a "cease and desist" letter from Wendy's lawyers.

Look we all know Wendy is a kook but nobody who gets all wired up off Pritchetts posts can whine about her and the news presses journalistic ethics. If thats the case why are you not crying out for Cathy (pritchetts co-producer) to lose her job at UCSB? How can she be the person in charge of news and public affairs at KCSB and work on a show that is so slanted? No real news organization would allow that ever(public affairs would be fine, since it relegates one to the travis world of bs and spin but not news) If its not okay for the news press to have a wall why do you jokers endorse it for other media in town and not get all riled up. Seriously I have come to the conclusion that most people here dont like the News Press just because it dosent fit their "progressive" political view rather than the many good reasons to dislike that disgraced rag and its owner!

Hard to tell with that incoherent rant by Shaking Head, but did he see the video or not?

Is he concluding the show is "slanted" without ever viewing it?

You're kidding, I was not attempting plagiarism (you really must be kidding). I was showing how your string of negative adjectives could easily be aimed at our local political on-representatives(duh!).

You and all the other N-P haters can't see the forest for the trees. Travis and his boss have bravely taken on the dysfunctional establishment. This is not to say that they are perfect. No one is. But they surely hit the nail on the head when they expose Marty, Janet, Brian, and all the rest in power for the shake-and-bake way they treat the truth.

You and your pals are stuck in the 60's like a bunch of burned out activists in your approach to "The Man", or in this case the N-P. If you'd open your eyes, you might be able to see that the N-P should get an award for the way they try to keep our slippery politicians honest.

This town has been drinking the city hall kool-aid for too long. To the N-P I say THANK YOU!

Mr. Carson, we are not talking about mere petty imperfection here when it comes to Travis, and we're not just talking about Travis. What I am talking about -- which you don't bother to deny -- is that N-P management has proven themselves to be oppressive lying hypocrites who claim ethical principles while practicing something else, both in the senses of journalistic integrity and the Golden Rule. They are themselves dysfunctional to the max.

The sycophants supporting Club Wendy Wealthy, in which it's OK to pander to the other rich in town, pull up the ladder and stick it to immigrants, seem to enjoy dimestore pschoanalysis of the N-P's critics, but those generalizations and ignorant hypotheses are worthless at best.

I suggest you see if you can perceive a forest in that "I've got mine" neck of the woods!
