Wallis Announces Support for Easton
Goleta Council Member Jonny Wallis announced Friday that she will NOT be running for reelection this fall and endorsed Ed Easton for the position. Not unexpected, it brings up speculation as to who else will run for the second seat available.
Word on the street is that former-Council Member Margaret Connell will come out of retirement in the coming days to announce her candidacy.
Some people will likely say that she had her turn -- the truth is, however, that Connell is extremely capable and knowledgeable and got caught in a poor situation with a slate that was ill advised in the last election. It will be interesting to see what she has learned during her hiatus and what her approach would be with a council where the future of growth lies in the balance.

Wow! Margaret goes as far back as Jean and knows 10 times as much.
Margaret Connell is one class act. Goleta is lucky she is willing to run again. Grab her and give her the landslide victory she has earned and deserves.
She is bright, capable, ethical and has the best interests of Goleta always at heart. We should be so lucky in Santa Barbara to have someone so competent and selfless serving our city.
One thing I'm sure of, Margaret has a nice writing style and seems to have the heart of the Good Land. When's the last time you saw something in print from the "Gang of Three" explaining their decisions or hold a informal campfire-side chat ?
Can anyone share what it is the biz chamber is doing to recruit more high income companies into this area? Seems all they do is shill for more low income housing to make it easier for the low paying tourist industry. Just consider what biz has come to town... In Old town we got the creek reworked immediately for the comming 100 year flood. We got a big hotel, we got a bunch of $800K condo's. Oh yeah , and a COG subsidized apt building. What business in old town benefits from the only approved projects so far? Hmmm...someone who owns a bus service in OT??
I've already mentioned the police contract (ad naseum, i know), and I'm sure Jeanie Baby no longer has to kvetch about the neighbors trash cans blocking the street sweeper in her neighborhood.
I want to know what projects the COG has on the table that will benefit the entire tax paying community? How about reworking the Fairview/101 off ramp fiasco? Where does Old Town Refurbishment stand? Still looks as run down as ever to me. How about putting the cops to work checking all the unapproved home additions and overpopulated dwellings that are in violation?
Here's a link to Ed Easton's web site, FYI. (I'm his son.) I'm not sure if Margaret has announced yet but my impression is she's definitely going to run.
