V is for Vendetta

If anyone had any doubt of Travis Armstrong's vendetta against Mayor Blum -- today's opinion will certainly erase any doubts they may have had.

He also finally brought a man unto his hit list in Council Member Barnwell but then immediately added Barnwell's girlfriend into the ring -- who happens to be a fellow employee at the News-Press!

Armstrong has now made it clear he has problems with every single council member with the exception of Iya Falcone. At some point, she will be set in his sights as well if she ever wanders away from his agenda. When does the problem not be about the duly elected members of council?

HI Sara
I fully agree with your statements and sentiments---with the exception of your use of the phrase "wanders off the reservation" for two reasons:
1) it can very easily be perceived as racist especially when used in reference to someone like Armstrong who clearly identifies as Native American
2) it implies, wrongly, that IYA is the only councilmember who hasn't been targeted by Trav and somehow that's because she toes his line. He keeps his hands off of Das, for the most part, and Roger, other than indirectly via their union endorsements.

Good point -- as for #1, changed the wording. As for #2 -- yes but Iya hasn't been in his targets at all...directly or indirectly.

I've read Travis' article and I just read your opinion on it. What he's saying is making perfect sense. Marty Blum is grandstanding about the radio stuff and he's calling her out, using a very similar example where she didn't scream out.

He also is welcoming Blum to come onto the radio station anytime.

Sounds non-vendetta to me. If anybody sounds like they have a vendetta, it's you.

Gee, Sara, are you alright?

Travis is telling us why Marty wasn't given air time on a particular show. And he's pointing out that it isn't such an anomaly in radio biz.
Don't worry. He's honest about his opinion, and she's still the mayor.

Maybe you outghta smoke a peacepipe. Oops! Double oops!

Yeah! Me and Bill are smokin' the chronic....LOL. Maybe I came down a little harsh on Bill yesterday...sorry about that Bill. I'm just trying to keep some semblance of order...

To the issue at hand, I've never heard of such a policy before he brought it up in these series of opinion pieces. Even so -- why would anyone he has his sights on want to be ripped apart on the airwaves? Why should that keep you from being on other radio shows?

for all of Joe Coles' problems he was actually refraining trav1000 and his mental issues. on good information joe left because of the radio debacal. my bet - roberts is the next to go now that there is not the cole buffer between the news folks and wendy/trav1000

Seriously, folks, the SBNP is supposed to be a newspaper. With the Travis Rant Page, it's completely losing any semblance of journalism and is not becoming, but rather IS, nothing more than a cheap, tawdry, trashy tabloid.

I agree with 6:46 - Roberts will leave soon. Cole protected all. The recent melt downs and staff changes prior to Coles decision to leave are most likely all part of the on going changes. Wendy does not understand a news room, does not understand the role of a paper - it is not a business but a toy to her. To Jerry Roberts this is a serious profession and without Cole - Jerry will leave and leave soon with Nipper in charge.

How come the paper Masthead still list Cole?

You can determine the weakness of Armstrong's position on the radio question. In the several times he's mentioned it in the paper, he's never actually described what happened. The explanation came from the News-Press article--not from anything written by Armstrong. I guess it would sound too petty to actually state that he prohibited Blum and Rose from appearing on an unrelated program because they wouldn't submit to his own show.

And, I'd like to see the actual "policy" that he says is in place. He hasn't printed that either, but seeing it in print would be very informative and entertaining.

What was also really amusing was Armstrong's Sunday article where he vowed to keep up the fight against people like Blum and Rose who he says are tring to "silence" his coulum. What? Who is and has been trying to silence whom? Does the term paranoia come to mind here?

Travis 's column tries to appeal to our sense of fairness. But it is difficult to agree with him when he himself uses the unfair tactic of screening out letters to the editor that disagree with him, printing primarily those that he likes.

Some have in the past denied that Travis screens out many letters. Let me suggest that you take a look at a site Susan Rose set up so that letters that were not published in the News-Press could be posted publicly.

Go to http://friendsofsusanrose.com/ and click on commentary. Then click on Our Voices and see 5 pages of letters criticizing Travis that he refused to print for reasons he cannot rationally explain away.

Travis should just say, "Look, my boss owns the paper and has a 'deal' with the radio station. This gives me the power to make up whatever rules I want. I don't have to be fair."

By trying to appeal to our sense of fairness, Travis exposes his hypocrisy .

I agree that Roberts will be gone soon, as he's been on his way out for months, as he tried to hang on until retirement. He was fired at the SF Examiner and demoted at the newspress. Cole saved him for a looooong time. The managing editor and metro editor are who runs the paper these days anyhow from what a reporter told me a month or more ago.

Who is being Chronic now?

Barnwell and his "girlfriend" were mentioned by News-Press today in the column by Barney Brantingham, not Travis Armstrong.

And what is up with that latest installment in the Blum-bash in the May 3rd Travis column?
Why keep being "Factswrong" with yet another puzzling inuendo and no naming names with this: "a different station, on the FM dial, in May 2005"?

Just write the details and let the readers decide, instead of vague jabs again? Reporter Josh Molina has better stories to cover, rather than clean up the half-assed editorial.

Thanks for seeking clarification. Armstrong's opinion piece (not editorial) discussed Barnwell and vaguely referred to his girlfriend the other day. I think I made that pretty clear AND had no idea at that point that Barney would write about it as well.

"He finally brought man onto his hit list". Well how about Pedro Nava, George Bush and his entire group? Travis has been beating up on men as well. It just happens that many of the elected positions of power is our community have been held by women. This thin defense of Marty and her misssteps being played as gender politics is ridiculous.

Yes, Roberts will be gone in one month or two for "family reasons." I wonder who will replace him ... They put in a guy from the Ventura Star-Free Lance to do that. But will it be him or someone else ...

Travis presented the award for large business of the year last night at the Goleta Chamber dinner.

No big fan of Travis but he did good.

While he spoke Council member Brock turned her back on the award to Bacara as large business of the year. Travis stated that Bacara is respondsible for 25% of the city of Goleta taxes each year.

And when Michael Bennett was award Man of the Year Brock could not clap or look at the stage.

Brock is more brain dead than any elected or candidate in the county.
