SBNP Salsipuedes Update: 15 Resignations
I got an email from a credible source Sunday night that I just read which said that Woman Magazine editor Ann Peyrat had given her two weeks but was escorted out of the building with a week to go....I didn't have her on a prior list...it's odd that the bleeding at the News-Press may not stop if only to keep a union from forming.

Someone could comment here if the departure of Morgan Green in May or June (whenever it was) was related to the editorial implosion there. She said she "retired" but choosing when to retire and why can have many reasons.
But the bleeding started with Joe Cole and that is when the count should be tallied, so it may be 17 total by now.
Yes, there seems to be some early history...
Dec. 2001 - Announcement that Travis Armstrong will be hired as Editorial page Editor
Feb. 2002 - Roberts announces he will leave SF Chronicle
May 2002 - Announcement that Roberts will become leader at News-Press (not sure of the exact titles)
Late 2004... Roberts and McCaw stop talking. (any source for this?)
Jan. 21, 2005 Roberts demoted from Publisher to VP of News (retaining Executive Editor), Cole becomes Publisher
April 17, 2005 Roberts writes `church and state' explanation, particularly w/r to a feral pig article written by Anna Davison (who still works for the paper)
April 27, 2006 Cole leaves... McCaw and von Wiesenberger become publishers.
Anna Davison is still with the News Press.
Sounds like a cover up.
Speaking --er, writing-- of resignations or news staff purging, which of the KEYT heads here will be next to disappear mysteriously??
http://www.keyt.com/
That will be revealed later this week in a very popular local publication.
I saw somewhere where a comparison picture was made of the former web page banner with Kate WeatherBabe present, and then without, the current version at KEYT. With one more of the famous heads gone, that KEYT web page banner will have a lot of empty blue space!
(I need to post this anonymous to protect my sources).
Anna Davison wrote quite fair articles about the pig people, making sure their absurd theories got in her articles, such as how feral barnyard pigs are destroying Santa Cruz Island but for some reason that should be part of the National Park goals. Sort of like how rats in your house should not be exterminated because of the animal rights of the rats, regardless of the harm to your human family ecosystem.
Actually, the dismissal of great journalists at the News-Press began in 2000 with Editor Tom Bolton, who was forced to resign. That was followed by the firing of Managing Editor Jesse Chavarria (the top editor back then) in 2001, who refused to knuckle under to the McCaw meddling in the news craziness. Funny, how Jerry Roberts had no problem taking the job in 2001 despite all the ethical problems that had happened previously.
The new, rookie, college-paper "reporters", including Vlad Kogan, are going to hit many walls when they try to develop sources and relationships with people and organizations who have lost all faith in the N-P. And Vlad hasn't helped his case much, by his own slanted, ridiculous "reporting" of the Free Press Forum, and recent City issues. So Vlad, you might 'auto text' the words "had no comment" into your word processor
You might want to try 2000.
Just prior to the departure of Alan Parsons for the start of the bleed.
Bloodbath.
Another salvo today, Aug. 15th.

Huff & Puff, the spin flak, denies it all, and this time obviously wrote up their excuses instead of repeating the paranoid rant of the Editorialist like last time.

This most detailed part in the N-P explanation obviously is about Camie Cohee charged with refusing to work when she really just did not want to insert the unsubstantiated political allegations that Travisty wanted in the never-published article. The more these Huff missives rant about stuff, naturally the more suspect they are for truthiness.
It's too hard to keep track of what's going on at the N-P--even their own website doesn't keep up with the changes (Shelly Leachman, for one, is still on the web masthead).
I can confirm the Ann Peyrat story--it seems the marketing/advertorial side of the paper is as much of a mess as the news room.
It's 16 now. Reporter Hildy Medina quit on Friday.
Latest to give notice that he is leaving is sportswriter Mike Traphagen. He will be joining former News-Press employees Hildy Medina and Michael Todd at "Hispanic Business Today." Although, Traphagen is leaving for better pay and better hours, every resignation strengthens McCaw's position in her effort to resist unionization. McCaw is not just simply replacing each departed employee with a new hire. Some estimate that for each employee that leaves McCaw is replacing them with two new employees further diluting the pool the of employees who favor unionization. So fast and furious is the pace of new hiring, in some cases the new hires have nothing to do. (Read more.)
