SB School Board Delays Charter School Vote
The school board voted 4-1 to continue discussion of the American Charter High School after four hours of discussion. The sticking point? The school's education plan hasn't been presented. It seems that school board member Bob Noel's baby has until May 12th to be approved or the school district would lose funding. As the other board members pointed out in the Daily Sound this morning, this is a big decision for the school district and a tight deadline. For his part, Noel has rid himself of any financial ties to the school just so he could vote on the issue.

Although I understand Bob Noel's desire to implement vocational programs for students, I have to wonder with declining enrollments, why NOT incorporate them into existing schools?
My thought is that kids already attending these schools might become more interested in these programs if they were readily available to them. Otherwise, out of sight, out of mind. JMHO

This idea has merit and I commend them for putting the focus on these middle of the road students, but this needs to be implemented at the actual school sites and integrated into the existing programs and infrastructure. Why not make a magnet type program at each of the three high schools? That way you get the best of both worlds.
They have no idea how they will pay for this after the initial start-up nor do they care that it takes valuable resources away from our other three schools at a severe-budget crunching moment which makes the support of local politicians baffling (don't they see how this negatively impacts the majority of students?). They should first spend a year studying the best way to achieve this goal.
No matter how loud the community screams or how many uninformed op-ed pieces are written, just because the board votes this down (which they will) don't jump to the conclusion that they are anti-charter or anti-technical vocational ed.

The board will vote it down because Bob Noel came up with it.They were opposed to the idea before they even heard about it, because it came from Bob. Sarvis needs to be removed from office before he does some real damage like put 230 condos on Tatum.
Today Dr. Laura lays it out on American Charter High School. Do you want political brainwashing, sexual hookups? and unintended pregnancies and STDs, binge drinking, etc?
