Newspress.TV Launched with No Fanfare

"Local. Unbiased. Accurate. 24 hours a Day." is what it says at newspress.tv.

Unbiased? Check out the page following the splash and see what you think about the Attack of the Clones story. As a citizen stringer wrote to me "WARNING: coffee spewing likely as you view the video... you have been WARNED!".

The opening shot has the crowd gathered at the courthouse with no sound -- giving an impression that they are there for Wendy. The Capello interview in the video was from a different day and failed to tell the whole story about the decision. The interview with Robert's lawyer is not edited for sound and is overly-noisy such that you can hardly understand him. Powerpoint graphics and an over-enunciated voiceover give you the impression they hope to be 60 Minutes someday.

Not a word about newspress.tv in the newspaper or online. Craig Smith may have had the scoop on this one -- why wouldn't they do a proper launch?

An alternative view with video on YouTube is offered by BobbyLuigi:

I dont know the newspress tv spot didnt look to bad to me, soundbites from both sides (although barry shouldnt have been dead center and I wonder how old the mic was) it was basic tv journalism and I dont think anyone who lives in this town thought the crowd were there in support of Wendy. It was suprising to see McCaw Obey the Law signs on a NP owned publication. It seemed to be quite fair reporting actually which was the biggest suprise.

As for the you tube videos they looked like garbage plain and simple. I probably wont be surfing the newspress.tv that often but it really wasnt that bad.

Im more interested in what spurred them to do it, wonder if the dailys sounds update newscast on the sbtv website made them jump into it...and btw hurrah Daily Sound I can finally read it on my mac!

God almighty, I don't know what is more painful, the voiceover or the loading times.

Wonder who penned the script for this one...

11 days without a TA editorial... Is TA just a radio personality, now?

Letters section on NP is broken. Only lists todays letters.

Re: "why wouldn't they do a proper launch?" My guess is that they want to see how much traffic they get from the free advertising provided by the local blogs. Shrewd move.

5:11 pm touches on a sad part of all of this exposure here there and everywhere. Over, and over again, the "CP" word is being connected with the "JR" words. Over and over, over and over, over and over.

The truth is that each time, JR must feel that he is being tortured by even his friends, while TA, WMcC, and AvW are loving it since it's hard to say more negative things about them then have already been said.

The judge had it right! He said that this was all about getting the "smear" maximum exposure and that's what is happening,

Someone mentioned the lack of KEYT coverage in the courtroom. I'm guessing that JR tries to go to sleep each night thanking the powers that be that at least they have not succumbed to the over, and over, and over, and over, and over and over.

Very sad! That front page corner story in the NP did just what they wanted it to do.

I'm boB

Will newspress.tv run commercials?

How about an infomercial with Co-Publisher Arthur von Wiesenburger hawking the thong underwear with the little Nipper Frog he keeps pushing on nippers.com?

The City College newspaper weighs in on "The Mess" and officially joins the Cabal.

http://media.www.thechannelsonline.com/media/storage/paper669/news/2007/05/02/Opinion/NewsPress.Has.Lost.Credibility-2891839.shtml

Wendy McCaw and Nipper von Whatever will now have to shut off News-Press web access to the college paper, and City College can just FORGET any exposure on newspress.tv!!

Sara, I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I think you probably meant to say "over-enunciated voiceover"...not "over-anunciated," unless you were throwing in a spanish term to confuse us gringos. ;-)

I wonder how they came up with the idea of creating this endeavor.

According to whois records, the site was registered on March 28, 2007

The format looks remarkably similar to Santa Barbara Internet TV (Estd. Mar 21, 2006). Perhaps they read the about section on my site talking about a current project and got inspiration for the name (since Jan 26). (Admittedly unlikely.) And of course, SB Newsroom provides the competition (Since Mar 2, 2007).

Anyway, should be fun to watch this sink with the rest of the NP ship.

I just read a story by Evans at the santa barbara news room and quite frankly it makes me happy that she and all the biased reporters at the News Press are gone.

While the majority were great journalist - she and others were horrible and make Wendy's revisionist history look factual.

Evans and others need to move away and find jobs else where - they are light weights without a real job.

I agree, it's smeary to follow the N-P as self appointed sleuths, and name one suspect, the one they want to sell. Too much TV. Change the channel. Isn't motive a prime part of investigationing? Wendy is most motivated and agressive. It is highly possible Wendy is out of control to the point of:

1. After learning of the contraband, she projected distortions onto an innocent man, his family, friends and all, to solve a problem.
2. She had something to do with, or knew about the images on the computers.

Didn't Cappello say in court yesterday they want the evidence because a current employee is suspect? How shallow.. today they are smearing again. They are all suspect.

The newspresstv is too packaged. It is infomercial gag.

Yeah! Evans at news room is just bad. So bad that no one needs to know what the bias is about nor which article the bias is in.

She is such a light weight and she needs to move to else where.

I know all about good writ ing be cause I special ize in com pound words so am an ex pert.

Thank fully, we now can have the fake Doctor write up all the news instead of Orsua now.

I don't understand why the NP is getting into video news when they can't get print news right?

Anonymous 10:53: Quite frankly, it would make me happy if Sara would delete you're comments from this blog (even though she won't in the interest of "diversity"), and it would also make me happy if you could type a grammatical, properly spelled, coherent sentence.

You need to move away and find elsewhere to comment; you are a lightweight without a shred of substantiated critical ability.

The newspresstv farce is another attempt to look good. There are those who like PR, Fox and royal a-- wipes. Yea, doc L, doing news is about as close to a newspaper as they can get. I can't wait to hear about the Queen's visit. It will make a big difference in all the news not reported.

The News-Press didn't "launch" News-Press TV at all. What you're seeing is a beta version of the site. News-Press employees were informed of the beta site last week. You'll notice there is no link on the newspress.com website to newspress.tv, which is a great domain name, by the way.

The official launch is sometime soon.

It is launched now.

It is becoming widely panned with all the boasting about being "unbiased" so much as if they are saying and writing it enough times to convince everyone it is true.

Just like the text editions, these video versions are so puffy and fluffy with no alternative points of view in the interviews and lots of video images that are not about what the narrative is saying.

It is all a lame catch up attempt, and losing still, against the video offered already by Daily Sound and sbnewsroom.com
