Mutilated Dog Found at DPHS

The Santa Barbara Daily Sound reported that a mutilated, frozen and partially burned dog was found on the Dos Pueblos High campus. I hope the authorities get to the bottom of this and prosecute whoever did this...apparently, it coincided with a big football game and a rash of graffiti found at the school. Whether there is a connection or not -- is anyone's guess.

I always like to consider that it is the superstitious and ritualistic members of the community that would do such weird things and inhumane acts. Regardless, they sure know how to screw people up, especially the youth.

Are you trying to cause a fuss? Whatever people do about their religion is fine by me and not superstition...and what does Christianity have to do with the post?

I agree Sara. This post by Donaldo is entirely inappropriate!

Donaldo's post--and Sara's posting of it--shows the limitations of the much admired "citizen journalism." oh, and by the way, what about two more gang stabbings in SB last night; according to channel 12, one involving a machete????

"Oh no he de'int"

Shame on you Donaldo.

Your penance is to drive 101 South on Sunday afternoons for the next month. You'll spend your weekdays driving little old Latin ladies to church and providing valet parking in your driveway...

Do it again and you'll have to buy a brand new Escalade and fill the tank full and drive in circles around the Mission

It seemed to me that the DP dead dog post was supposed to incite an emotional response. So I gave one. Even though the dead dog was probably a sick halloween prank I gave a less ordinary response about this weird and possibly cruel act. Just about everyone seems to be complaining these days so we've got to be more introspect to figure out what the heck is going on.

You can't help but notice there has been an influx/infiltration of mega churches, and religiosity especially since 9/11. The U.S. is currently on a "Crusade" "over there." The connection is meant to be vague but if we can openly blame, liberals, the media (or lack of it,) scientists, environmentalists, feminists, unions, them lawyers, homosexuals, homeless for what ails the world and our community then why can't we look at what is a greater influence here in our community?

I provided the links because I can't help but notice the recent increase of religion in the public square and even on those special cars with their "GOT LIFE/HOPE" and "REALITY" bumper stickers revealing the car owners ritualistic based reality and moral high ground over those that do not sport a sticker.

I apologize to those offended especially those of "faith"...but we're going to have to look a bit deeper about how we operate especially since those that are in power are the religious.

I can't bare to read what happened here. Have there been other incidents with animals? We haven't heard. Suspects? Why weren't sheriff or police interviewed? The location was a focus in the Sound.

Donaldo may have been reminded of the
ritualistic and cult aspect of acts like this. It is unusual the rumors will not be mentioned. There were vandals and no specific signs? The way this is handled creates more fear.

Tails are wagging!!! Apparently there IS an audience of readers who want local coverage to "GO ANIMAL"! The Daily Sound acknowledged this on Saturday Morning in a not so subtle way.

Kudos to those at the News Press who long ago recognized that we can't expect to treat each other any better than the way we treat a defenseless animal. What is the point of reporting about human on human crime when animals are still treated the way of the DP DOG???

For some time now, the News Press has valiantly given voice to those who meow, woff, roar, crow and mccaw, (fellow passengers on this juggernaut we call Planet Earth) who otherwise would be suffering in silence!

Maybe you didn't realize it before, but Humans can defend themselves and animals can't. Maybe that is why the News Press has compassionately chosen the high road of reporting anything about animals instead of dwelling on tired old subjects like murders, gangbangers, and residential robberies.

In the meantime, I'll continue scouring the pages of the local dailies and be first to know if ANYONE HARMS A FLY!

Arf!

Are you saying you think Christians did this (since you posted links to Chrisitan churches)?
It is way more likely this was a satanic ritual or just some really sick kids. Recently in Carpinteria a black cat was found decapitated at a local park...it is Halloween time, and their are a number of satanists in this area.
I would venture to say parents sure know how to screw up their kids more then churches that simply want to love and care for them!

uh oh - somebody uttered the "C" word - melt down time for all the "tolerant" liberals!

It has less to do with Christianity than it does with the enemy of Christ - this appears to have the earmarks of a Satanic ritualistic killing, I believe is what the gentleman was implying.

I can't believe you all missed the most important and salient aspect of this canine terrorizor.

Cruelty to animals is a common early trait of SERIAL KILLERS!

If the cops want to impress me and earn their pork, find that teenager (most likely) and make sure his next act of cruelty isn't torturing and killing some innocent this Halloween night!

Sleep well Santa Barbara...

Warning below is a link with a graphic photo.....along with the explanation repeated here;

>>> That's the oldest Mexican schoolboy prank in the book--it's called "El perro congelado se arde"--roughly translated as "The Frozen Dog Has Caught Fire"!

My grandmother told me that Mexican boys were doing that Halloween prank every year, even when SHE was a little girl! Learn something about the Mexican culture, before you go getting all bent out of shape about their customs and traditions, will ya?

JESUS!!!! Lighten up!!<<<

Could be a prank right out of someones freezer. While some cultures consider dogs as dirt, others eat dogs....to some really no difference than eradicating a pig herd on the islands.

What did the News-Press report? Did the police scratch this off as "El perro congelado se arde"? Because a crime mimics a "prank" doesn't lessen the depravity. Who can say it's not a gang/cult that has taken on this monstrous ritual?

I agree with Mahatma Gandhi and I take Donaldo's post to be thought provoking. I don't think of any religion as all identical or all good or bad. Whatever philosophy, we're all human beings. The thing is, we don't discuss certain things. The ritualistic aspect is worth discussing. Mexico is a Christian country.
We can talk about pedophile priests now, look what that took.

I'd like to know if the "vandals" left specific signs. A group of pranksters could be a one time thing, it only takes one in a group to be triggered and compelled to continue. Animal cruelty is a gateway for serial killing.

sorry, this isn't Mexico, and it isn't a cute little prank. The level of violence continues to rise and now we just dimiss it as bad choices (in the words of the Mayor) and Halloween pranks. Please!

I don't know Michael Vicks. Not all acts of animal cruelty lead to serial killing. Not all serial killers were cruel to animals. Didn't Hitler love his dogs? These incidents are indicators. Record keeping is laborous, it's a tool to try and solve problems. What's a prank today could be called a forewarning tomorrow.

What dates did the News-Press run this story? The page? I'd like to read what they found.

What are the police saying? The Mayor is not a detective, she'll parrot the police. Wendy may be the only one to care about this. Not bringing this into the light could create fear, scary folk lore and one upsmanship.

Cats are the easiest victims and they rarely get mentioned.

Well McC, The serial killer part remains to be seen...The Career Killer part is self evident...

I think this brings to light that not all elements of foreign culture are welcomed or desirable in our evermore murkey open door melting pot.

I don't suppose there's anyone who remembers the local urban legend of how IV became stray pet free back in the late 70's??

So is it worshippers of a magical crowned man whose characteristics are derived from the Zoroastrian deity Mithra, or worshippers of a horned tailed demon whose image is derived from the Greek deity Pan, who did this?

"religion is ... not superstition"

Where do you derive your authority on that matter? In any case, your opinion is certainly not universal. See, e.g.,

I can't believe this, but I actually have to agree with JQB (only in that the quoted opinion is not universal). Still, I never thought it would happen that we could ever agree on anything.

I don't want to dismiss anyone's faith, but, uh, I dismiss your faiths. God is man made.

Have a miraculous day!

I suppose the dog story ended w/out results?

I know cat cruelty isn't worth a mention, is Wendy paying attention?

"Nicholas Thompson allegedly beat his roommate's cat, "GiGi" nearly to death" An adult>Thompson, would not allow he cat to go to doctor.
