Treat Your County Well! Dr. Dave Gets Crosby Endorsement

I know. People will talk. Two posts in one week on Dr. Dave? Still, I received a press release yesterday from Dr. Dave Bearman announcing the support of David Crosby. Doreen Farr isn't mentioned at all in the release -- as if it is a two person race! I also have to wonder whether the Crosby endorsement helps or hinders Dr. Dave in the Valley. Here's part of the release:
International music superstar David Crosby has endorsed Dr. David Bearman for 3rd district Supervisor on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors.

Crosby, a Santa Barbara native and longtime resident of the Santa Ynez Valley, said "Fighting excessive development in the 3rd district means more than preserving quaint tourist attractions. It's part of a greater struggle to preserve the delicate environmental equilibrium of this area. I believe strongly that Dr. Dave is the candidate who will rein in the developers and preserve our shoreline, hills, streams and bountiful pastures." Crosby added that after considering the field of candidates, he decided that Bearman was the candidate who will draw the student and independent voters necessary to defeat David Smyzer, a pro-growth candidate appearing to favor the fast growth, environmentally damaging developers.

Endorsements never win an election in this town. Who cares if an old 60's hack gives Dr Doper a nod. Put down that toke and join the twenty-first century.

Bad move by Dr. Dave... he is a serious local politician, with years of experience in the Goleta area. That is how he should present himself.

Giving this much profile to the Crosby endorsement just reminds me that Crosby had drug problems, gun problems, and a liver transplant. It is unfair, but Crosby is almost a poster child for the excesses of th Baby Boomers.

What Bearman really needs is photo-ops with the Grange, the 4H club, and ranchers.

Dr. Dave is half right - Smyser threatens to continue Firestone's record of poor environmental policies, inside dealing despite conflicts, and pro-oil, pro-oil policies. Worse is that Smyser has already announced that if elected, following the 2010 census he will support gerrymandering the redistricting so that there will forever be 2 safe south coast districts and 3 districts favoring North County.

However, despite his sterling record in our community, Dr. Dave is not the one to beat Smyser. The simple fact is that he lacked the endorsements, funding and campaign group necessary to fight the Smyser/Firestone/Davies machine.

Doreen Farr has earned all the major progressive endorsement based on her long record of community activism, her great record on the county planning commission, and her long residency in SB County on "both sides of the mountain."

If Smyser wins, Crosby will be singing a sad song.

Bearman certainly has locked up the dope smoking, Lesbian singer impregnating, bad hair, arrogant NIMBY voting block now.

Augusto Den, Why is it "unfair"? Crosby did have drug and gun possession problems for which he spent time in Texas prisons ...and came out presumably rehabilitated, to get a liver transplant. Since then, he apparently has been clean.

What is mystifying is why an aged, 60's, singer, a Montecito native with no other claim to fame than singing and none to county planning and no public participation via municipal/county committees/councils, should be seen as an important BOS seat endorsement.

Smyser and Firestone must be laughing!

Just unfair to make a poster child out of anybody; David Crosby is, after all, an extremely talented singer and composer. His problems are surely more complex than the simpleminded caricature of: oversexed, overpampered, overindulged, overrich, no responsibility Baby Boomer.
