Carbajal on COLAB Report

A quick note that Joe Armenderiz will be hosting the COLAB Report on AM 1290, Thursday at 2pm. First District Supervisor Salud Carbajal will be his guest speaker. It might be a good listen and call in opportunity!

Someone call in for me because I am working class. Please state that donaldo de Santa Barbara, a Laborer and Taxpayer, states that COLAB does not represent him and that I think Colab is narrow-minded and hypocritical. Oh unfortunately, AM 1290 is McCaw's, Armstrongs and Millers Station....better to just not to tune in so maybe they'll all eventually go away.

Thanks

First thought: Why the F*#%&C would Carbajal go on that show on that radio station?

Second thought: Oh, he is Salud, and no one has a bigger ego than even Armendariz.

Third thought: Salud, YABBA DABBA -- (Let's not take this too far 6:53 PM).

6:53 pm -- sorry for the edit. I would urge you, however, to get to know JA past the obvious battle lines.

You might find that he is your local McCain -- rarely agree with him, but can respect him because of how he does business. There's something about that that even some of my favorite neo-libs forget about because we are always fighting for survival -- to extend the McCain example, if he was President -- I'm not so sure that the war in Iraq would have gone so far as it has. Someone who has been a POW would have handled this differently than someone who skipped out on serving our country. Some of that we will like, some not.

He certainly wouldn't say he is "The Decider" or the "Commander Guy". To the point, JA exhibits some of those qualities -- even if I'm going to get in trouble from some of youse guys. I think Salud recognizes that and is willing to walk softly and carefully towards 1290 AM. I can undertand that -- even if I would personally coldshoulder.com.

Santa Barbara used to be a pretty civil place. People along different parts of the political spectrum would debate without rancor. The media was transparent, reporting on the news rather than constantly making the news.

Think of the changes, particularly in the last year, that McCaw-Armstrong-Millstein-Cappello have brought to the tone of local public debate.

It's good that Salud and Joe will be speaking with each other about local issues. They both are elected officials and they both care. Their jurisdictions overlap.

Enjoy the recess, the McCaw/Armstrong/von Weisenburger editorials return next week.

I think you could easily throw the same criticism at Salud. I saw him in action and I was not impressed with his petty tactics.

Having been in a position to judge attention and responsiveness of our elected officials over more than 20 years, there has been NO ONE more responsive NO ONE who listens to his constituents more than Salud.

He may not agree, but he will tell you when he does not agree.

Call him any time of the day and he will call you back within minutes EVERY TIME.

I don't know what "pettiness" 11:22 has observed, but it is nothing compared to his contemporaries and predecessors.

Compare him to Brooks, or Joni or Joe and there is No Comparison! Janet is still too new to properly assess.

See how long you wait for a return call from one of them

We are fortunate to have Salud in SB.

It is not his job to agree with everything we say or want, only his job to listen to what we say and give us his response.

That he does better than anyone else

I don't know JA at all, but I feel for him if you have to compare him to McCain. The "Maverick" senator has caved on everything--he just puts up a front and then gives in. Rightly criticizes racist Bob Jones U, then goes to speak there, etc.

Sara de la Guerra: Along with Dr. Laura, some of us out here are a little sensitive about how you just flippantly talked about the war in the blog, not to mention our President too.

Like Dr. Laura, I've got a son in the fight, and we like to think it's for a good reason. He's got a purple heart, a bronze star, and has served in both Afghanistan and Iraq. He's received a letter from President Bush and sees Dr. Laura from time to time where they talk about what these things mean. He also speaks around the community regarding his experiences and views. Some of us here are carrying the weight for others and we think danger is real. I am just letting you know that other views about the war exist too.

Call me your great, great, grandfather who saved the community from the pirate Bouchard.

Don Jose -- don't have any probem with those who serve our country. I'm addressing policy here. I hope your son comes home soon.

well, someone totally deleted the wikipedia pages about the Santa Barbara News-Press controversy today... another user restored them.

Wiki on the Controversy

I think the Wiki is a good resource, and fairly good documentation of the affair. That someone cared enough to delete the article shows that it has some effect.

I have known Joe for some time and he suffers from a condition that afflicts all the doctrinaire, that is his mind is closed to ideas that do not conform to his presuppositions. This is unfortunate because I believe that he is intelligent and kind and almost too sensitive to suffer the slings and arrows of the harsh world of politics. He is a true believer that capitalism will raise all boats and all government is somehow inherantly flawed. If he would only open his mind, just a crack, and let in an idea that he is not supposed to believe, he could be great community leader.

Dear Anon 2:09,

There are few local politicians that cart around as large an ego as Salud. He wins the award for being so full of himself, when there is so little to be full of.

And who cares if he calls back in minutes when his conversation consists of meaningless, grammatically erroneous chatter?

Other than Lois Capps, Salud is the only local elected official that owes his elected seat solely to someone else's accomplishments: No Naomi = No Salud.

The best thing about Salud is that he'll go away when Pedro does. And after that...thank goodness for term limits.

I don't know JA and not sure I've heard AM1290. I haven't listened to TA. Am I missing much?

As an Army brat I feel deeply for all military personnel and family, Don Jose. I want all sons and daughters to return whole. As Sara notes "addressing policy here". It would help to keep that in mind and realize most people don't want harm or disrespect to soldiers. They also comprehend what the other views about the war are. Unfortunately, people like Bush and Dr. Laura lost respect because they shut out most of the world and will only address their little mind set. They are bullies who crouch beneath the bravado when any truth is asked of them. They are not like the courageous soldiers who may look up to them.

The dark side of war needs to be discussed, it is cowardly not to address the problems. In the current situation it is more clear each day there were lies told to promote a policy. In time there may be war crimes to prosecute the actual "evil doers". Dr. Laura's history of lies is not just her recent diatribes. Good people are taken in by her everyday. If you know anything about her, how much did she care about maimed, homeless, drug addicted or dead servicemen before her son joined the army? She continues to leave out important issues in her career promoting politics. She has nothing new to say, it's the same thing over and over and she's just one more tool. You have every reason to be proud of your son. However the invasion turns out, the soldiers services and sacrifices are valid. I can understand how it is people want to hold on to beliefs. I have a family of old style conservatives, to this day one old timer is a 50-60's Nixonite. The old Russian communists could invade anyday. Time stands still when they can't take reality.

Have a nice week end!

Salud is well-meaning----- just spins out of control at times. Let's see how he stands up to the North County-Mike Brown steamroller aiming to turn this County into the San Fernando Valley. Sometimes Salud tries so hard to look like he gets along with everyone, that he fails to take a real stand when it matters.

JA is a kind and nice man. It is unusual to find someone you disagree with who does not hate you these days. He is also smart - even if he has his mind made up - and he is a thinker.

Salud is fine - we all knew what we were getting. As he may say "He's No Brain Scientist." But what do we expect? We want people to blow with the wind and we blow in both directions - we have become selfish and self focused and why wouldn't our elected officails be the same.

Salud and I would vote the same, but I only hope that JA and I would have the same ablility to think - but some days I wonder.
