210 Meigs Road and Washington School
Interesting piece over at the SB Housing Bubble blog on a 10-unit condominium project being developed across from Washington Elementary School. Saint Barbara points out that a serious amount of trees would be taken down in the process and takes a look at how the proposed development could affect the school.

"...affect the school." Yeah, yeah, I'm picky about such things.
sara, it's "affect" not effect.
Also, no one cares about trees anymore in Santa Barbara, and it's time to turn in our "Tree City" designation. It's palm trees everywhere, and grind leafy, shady ones down to the ground.
I'm glad I was never a journalist -- especially right after I wake up in the morning. I guess I shouldn't blog before my first cup of coffee. Thanks for the noodge.
More distressing than effect / affect is your "current events" heading..... kind of like saying the Lakers lose to the Grizzlies....oh wait, that was last year, but they won last night.
I believe the district supports the current proposal working its way through the process (five building envelopes) and did not support the prior proposal (10 condos). The district has negotiated a favorable land swap and the city is hopefully getting its pound of flesh for discretionary requests.
The eucs are unsafe and a fire hazard, and have been allowed to grow too large without proper maintenance. They should be replaced in form and function, not necessarily in location.
All that said, the five building envelopes still "feel" like way too much building is coming on such a little space. That will be the next and more important discussion- building sizes vs lot sizes, set-backs, open space and yards. There are a group of Mesa residents that are following this process and will continue to weigh in.
Didn't say anything about current events...maybe you got that from the link in question?

210 Meigs Road Opposed by School District
-apparently I misinterpret details like healdines? Perhaps you meant "was opposed?"
The link clearly indicates that the district and the property owner are in agreement over the proposed terms of the development.
I was unaware that you were in the practice of commenting on out of date news or inaccurate news. Don't tell me I have to worry about editorializing on a blog.....it must have been the lack of java.
It's actually really great to have people that can call me on my mistakes -- just didn't know what you meant in yesterday's comment. Will edit now.
Sara, it also "effect".
Because this bad project will have a negative "effect" on the neighborhood.
