Fatburger Sign Update

Fatburger corporate marketing types must read the local blogs -- the "We're Closed" sign has changed since several local bloggers mentioned the incorrect "Palmdale" reference the other day. Thanks to an avid reader for forwarding me a photo (click to enlarge):

On a whim -- I checked their website as well. The closest Fatburger to the "93101" zip code is now in Ventura:

Much ado about Fatburger... The only downside to their closing is the creation of one more empty storefront on State St. The name "Fatburger" never really enticed me and I only ate their once. I'd rather go to Chubbies or El Zarape (on the Westside).

That's pretty much what I am getting at -- State Street may get more and more empty. Much ado about Fatburger today may be more ado about other tomorrow :)

More and more retail is now done online. City planners again are planning for what they want to happen; not what is happening.

They want more retail and building all over town so they can get more salary raises and fully paid benefits from increased taxes and permit fees. All to keep city staff happy.

Yet, the future of Santa Barbara retail is changing and those store fronts will never fill up again, unless you like the look of 99 cent stores, check-cashing rip-off palaces and tattoo parlors.

The city had a chance to keep this town healthy and they blew it. Hope they can turn those store fronts into homeless shelters and let their conversion of downtown Santa Barbara be complete.

Helene Schneider for mayor. Natch.

Well, empty little storefronts or not, we'll soon have Apple at an estimated $68K/month, working to drive out the truly local MacMechanic on Gutierrez.

Wow sad day for that city. I had eaten at Fat Burger on every visit from Perth, Western Australia to Santa Barbara. I enjoyed the memories and burgers over the past 17 years.

Tower records gone from the Sunset Strip now Fat Burger from State St. Very sad to see this icons gone.
