Santa Maria Council Member Hilda Zacarias to Run for 33rd Assembly District?

Back in January, BlogaBarbara looked at whether council candidate David Pritchett had really announced his candidacy on Facebook.

It looks as though Harvard grad and Santa Maria Council Woman Hilda Zacarias has either announced or is getting ready for an announcement that she will be running for the 33rd State Assembly District seat currently held by Sam Blakesleee. Although there is no official news yet that I can see, her Facebook page has been created.

Go Hilda!
I've watched Hilda's career for many years, from School Board, back to private business, to working with non-profits and youth development activities, then continuing her higher education, then elected office again. How refreshing to have a candidate who doesn't know it all, but asks questions, learns, listens and represents her community.

Will Hilda go for both County supervisor and State assembly member at the same time? Both elections are June 2010.

shoot. I thought Hilda was running for Fifth District---she'd have a better shot there, and we need her voice in the fifth district.

Thanks for the tip to read the DS about John Thyne. He shook up the status quo in this town on two fronts that are out to get them for their own selfish self-interests.

1. The realtors were rocked off their 6% windfall fixed percentage with the success of his 3% company. He was innovative and right because he saw the prices in town did not justify the old 6% preminum forced on each sale and that internet sales were cutting down costs of marketing properties significantly. Realtors are dedicated to hating him because he took away their candy.

2. Progressives hate him just like they tried to destroy anyone who went against their agenda in the most vicious and hateful terms that created a sense of violence in everything about the progressive agenda - aka Obamaland.

Now Thyne, obviously no Obama supporter or progressive Kool-Aid drinker must now be destroyed with the same "community organizing" tactics that have now become the hallmark of successful Democratic politics.

Thyne has my vote, no question about that plus he will pick up thousands more just like mine.

Sara,

I forget the Daily Sound is a bit of a blog too. I like to read the hard copy. At least Molina gives me some of the political reporting I miss from the days when we used to have a local daily paper!

Obamaland?

Dude, you are not helping your anyone-but-a-Liberal candidate here.

Did happy hour come early today?

Finally, a chance to post on John Thyne. John is not only a nice guy, he is an old fashioned Southern Gentleman (who would have guessed that Oklahoma could produce such?). He is very bright and very generous, both very good traits, especially when found together. It is true that he is politically and economically conservative, but not annoyingly so. If he has one major flaw, he suffers from the over-confidence of someone who has been the smartest person in the classroom from kindergarten through law school, the most productive employee at every job he ever had, and a magician who has turned dross into gold at every economic venture that he has touched. John can appear to be a bit condencending (arrogant?), which can put people off. The funny thing is that he really is smarter and harder working than you or me-but we just don't like being remindeded of that fact every time we talk to him. Several ego whippings notwithstanding, I still like John Thyne. Despite the fact that I don't as a rule support Republicans, I would probably vote for John because he is just so damned competent. He he also truly kind and has the generous moral heart of a liberal.

How did this turn into a blog about John Thyne? I thought we were discussing Hilda, and we do need a candidate for 5th District.

I hope John Thyne will help motivate the Obama vols :) But Sally is right back to Hilda! Good luck Hilda on whatever you decide to run for. And I don’t think she’s impatient. Why do you say that?

Hilda Zacarias passes the litmus test for me (alkaline.) It would be interesting to see how she does in this nawthener's district that is reportedly so much different from us sutheners.

SDLG>>"sit this election out?" After reading the Daily Sound I think you have a good reason. I don't know how you do it. The only thing I can say about the D.S. comments is that it is too bad the candidate only participated by responding once. Aside from the suggestive comments people want to know John Thyne's positions. Perhaps Thyne is in shock about the comments. Still he should be able to respond to just about anything posted.

SDLG>>> it's your blog. Maybe you could think about establishing or use "special rules" during this upcoming busy and edgy council race. Suggestion, try a new format or modify your guidelines. Limit questions and invite candidate's responses. Or, allow "sick" or "mean spirited" accusations only if substantiated with names and dates or disallow altogether. It's your blog that we enjoy but you have to make it work for you.

@Don -- thanks for the suggestions. I've been looking at that and it is a bit of work! Maybe I can just move to Twitter and we keep it to 140 characters :)

@impatient Hilda has been around for years and been active in her community. She was an aide to Walter Capps and has worked for several community-based organizations -- I wouldn't call her impatient, maybe experienced?
