I guess Secord's last minute dirty tricks didn't push him over the top enough.

Will be more than 5% margin for Wolf after all the absentee ballots counted.

Who will Wolf pick for her staff?

wolf had last minute dirty tricks, putting a negative add into COX at the last minute. KEYT refused to bend the rules for her and wouldn't show it.

9:38 anon, you got your facts wrong buddy.....the "last minute dirty tricks" were in the form of two hit pieces from Secord, nasty, slimy innuendo-ridden attacks on Wolf and Rose. and then there was the "home builders" swift boat attack. Whatever. Dan's dirty tricks failed to push him over the top. Davies, back to the drawing board for your next loss....

wah, wah , wah Anon. 9:38. Did you vote for the "Democratic" candidate Dan Secord? He was the one nuzzled between Bill Clinton(who knew he was on the ballot?!?) and Phil Angelides on the clever slate mailer that arrived in mailboxes on 11/6.

What the f*** was that slate mailer?? I saw it and just about fell out of my chair. I couldn't even determine who sent it. Somebody fill me in.

Secord was never going to win this. His campaign was the best here in decades - great tv. Told the truth about Rose - told the truth about the home builders.

hard to beat the dem chick machine in Santa Barbara, but he came damn close.

Terrible, isn't it?

Women who are Democrats vote for good candidates and win.

Get used to it. More Dem Chicks, please.

Last night I heard Dan Secord on 1290am say "I never saw that mailer" when pressed by Harriet Miller about the DEMOCRATS! slate mailer. Right, Dan.

Well, Dan, you paid for that mailer....so it says because there's an asterik by your name and the asterik indicates who paid for the mailer.

"dem chick machine"?

not even worthy of more comment.....

9:38 anon,

What negative ad? I remember seeing Janet on tv with Lois Capps and firefighters.

Oh, maybe the negative ad was of Janet being endorsed by all of Dan's former colleagues on the council?

Harsh!!!!

9:02 anon:
Why don't YOU just go away. Regardless of who you support, the race is over and a man with a long and distinguished career who is respected by many is dealing with it. Let it be.

Don't bother responding with some uninspired insult only a bottom feeder like yourself could muster, I'm done wasting my time reading this horse****. Have fun kids

9:02's comment probably shouldn't have been let in and I'll take responsibility for that -- 9:30 ANON is right -- Dan is dealing with it and it can't be easy, especially in a close race. One of the things I don't like about blogging is people's lack of perspective in the name of being right. We all do it to an extent -- but there is no reason for someone who has served the community for many years to "just go away".

Dem Chick Machines - I love it!! I thought of Linda Hamilton, in T-2, taking care of business. :-)

Slate mailers are nothing more than marketing tools. If you have the money, you pay (a lot) to get your name on the postcard before your opponent does. Those expenses are reportable on the candidate's Form 460.

Sometimes PAC's use them to hype their chosen candidates as in-kind donations that aren't necessarily reportable on the candidate's 460 form.

It's also a way to get the candidate's name "linked" to other politicans and/or challengers, even if they have nothing in common (like the same POV)- which is considered the "deceit" factor. It's not illegal and I'll leave the "moral" factor" up to you. Dan ended up on that mailer because somebody paid the money. dd

Please don't insult Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) by comparing her to the backstabbing old bitties here on the South Coast. At least that character had the brains to make her own decisions. Geez, you lemocrats sure are blind.

"backstabbing old bitties", eh anon 12:14?

That kind of response in 2006 to a woman winning an election with widespread support really calls into question the [not so high] level of discourse among some sore-loser males in the South Coast.....
