Obama, McCain, Palin, Biden, etc. Jump

Looks like we better keep the conversation going on a new thread...thoughts on McCain's speech tonight? I've gotta bring up YouTube in a few minutes to see....

you would think that McCain, being the Military man, and all those Repubs putting on their love fest, would know about about the Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 1344.10, section 4.1.1.9...

A member of the armed forces on active duty may:........ attend partisan and nonpartisan fundraising activities, meetings, rallies, debates, conventions, or activities as a spectator when not in uniform and when no inference or appearance of official sponsorship, approval, or endorsement can reasonably be drawn.

uuuhhh, I am not sure your complete message made it thru.

I watched both conventions and learned something from each.

I am excited about this election and am really stoked at all the energy being put into people rallying behind their choices- the best in years.

I am for the rep ticket, but am still interested in the big picture.

May the best group win , and I hope we are all on board to make sure the promises and ideas are put into action, by all.

To save space, from now on everyone just post "Democrat" or "Republican." That way we'll know your opinion without having to wade through a screen full of talking points.

I decline to state.

Christine rocks.

However, having surfed around to many blogs and websites in the last few days I'll just say this. Blogabarbara needs to update more often to stay in the game. I can post comments on other blogs and see them appear within the hour. But here the comments only appear twice a day. This site is like General Motors. . . it's beyond my control. Either update more often or suffer the fate of the Edsel. Sorry Sara, but that's the way I feel.

That's cool LW -- I wish I could. Unfortunately, I have a job where that isn't possible save for the weekend! Doin' the best I can here brother/sister!

"But it looks like sa1 has swallowed the kool aide."

Hold it just a minute there sbcver,

The last thing I swallowed...(nevermind, was probably illeagal)

Firstly, inherited wealth is an urban myth.

Secondly, as one who has recently strolled through Jeuraselem and the Taj Mahal, I can say that the biggest societal problem damning humanity is religeous dogma and it's skewing of common sense and spawning of violence against non-believers.

The drivel that surrounds the debate about special interests led by the right wingers abortion, family values crap is just that.

Politics should be about who has the plan for the best common good. In my book, that's the economy, civil rights/liberty and common defense to support them.

Unfortunately we have allowed the media and special interest monies to drive the debate and we all suffer for it.

One thing I'm sure of though is that we as Americans do have the best system and we need to protect it from the evil doers in our on midst that suborn the will of the people to enrich themselves at the expence of the public good.

I tired of the liars, cheats and frauds. Politics is full of it and it really hurting our country. It makes me so sad I've just given up caring about it.

I grew up a very patriotic person, but ever since the right wing religeous nuts gained power in the 80's and the left wing give away crowd ruined California, I feel it's just time to worry about myself...just like everyone else.

Sara...don't moderate the blog, just let the good, bad, and ugly go right on through...let us yell at the uncivilized and those who lack discretion...this problem is handled in different ways on different blogs but you shouldn't have to do so much policing...

The tone may go down for awhile but usually the trolls and weirdos go away from lack of interest...

Rapid exchanges on a blog make for more detailed arguments that develop as they move along...

I must admit playing "waiting for Sara" is sometimes like waiting for Godot...yet I understand and am sympathetic to your problem of going to work.

Let the real character of Santa Barbara in cyberspace come out.

A few of my favorite comments:

By MARC COOPER

Governor Gidget appeared on screen melting my heart and conquering my soul. That was after The Mayor of America softened me up.

Once I was blind. But now I can see.

I agree with every one of their points.

Black is white.

Up is Down.

Slavery is Freedom.

Arbeit Macht Frei.

We are winning in Iraq.

The WMD did exist.

Saddam was the leader of Al Qaeda.

Torture is legal.

Running Wasilla is more or less like running New York City.

Black men who become president of the Harvard Law Review are effete snobs.

Writing two best-selling memoirs is, um, a black mark.

Having a baby out of wedlock or aborting the fetus is strictly a personal, private issue even when the state wants to criminalize the latter.

America's perceived economic crisis is a mental aberration curable by sexual abstention.

Sarah has had more executive experience than Joe Biden and Barack Obama combined.

Running the PTA is very much like the CIA.

Garnering about 655 votes to win a Mayor's seat is major executive experience.

Palin would be the perfect President to stare down Vladimir Putin.

Mike Huckabee should be named head of National Institute for Science Education.

Traveling outside the country once by age 43 makes you fit to run the most powerful military in the history of the world.

Capacity to read a pre-canned generic speech written by spinmeisters is a major qualification for national office.

P.S. I will leave it to others to offer a "serious" analysis of Sarah Palin's remarks, I refuse to participate in that sort of farce.

All Good things come to those who wait"

Sounds like something Ben Franklin said.

LW, If you want to see your name in lights, you know where to go. Sara's done a great job for years here unselfishly. I got turned off completely when Brand X blog started putting ads on its site and now to hear it's underhanded redirecting BS is why I haven't been back to read, let alone post.

I'm not about to give it the touts for page views it got into one day. Then valueing it as some hot property in SB web world. Sheesh they can't even get a good thread going there. Bunch of wierdo's posting unlike our safe and sane blogabarbarans....It's all about the money to EB, you can just smell it.

Ok one last one from Conan OB,

In her speach, Palin talked about how proud she was of being a Hockey Mom. We don't know what positions her kids play but apparently one of them is not too good at protecting the crease...

Bwahahaha I think that's pretty funny but you may have to be Canadian to get it.

Ok I'll try to dig up some good NObama jokes just to be fair and unbiased...just the facts ma'am.

Well, either we take the position like Estragon does in Act I: "People are bloody ignorant apes".

or like Vladimir we say "Pah!" to that...

I hear you Uncle Don Jose and many thanks to you and the kind words from SA1 -- sometimes I think it would be easier not to moderate, sometimes I don't see how I could not.

Pretty existential, Eugene.

Sara, Don Jose, and SA1,

Well Sara my dear neice...

Here we are discussing the virtues of moderation and SA 1 goes off on a rant to prove ranting can be annoying and moderation valuable...I am sure he has had too much coffee...he is not being moderate...

SA 1 is always the "injured' party in his rants...needs to get help.

So what? I gotta start drinkin to blog? Hmmmm, well sober or not LW’s right about Christine. But I have to agree about the updates. Sorry Sara, this is a fast paced medium and this topic is going off like a bomb, everywhere. Still, I think you run a pretty class joint here for us ranting raving lunatics. Keep it up!

Boo hoo hoo,

Uncle DJ, you wound me.

When have I ever been moderate? It's just not in my jeans...

However, in light of recent political events around the world, I do think we need a strong international leader or we will get left out. Now is the time to move on it.

The world is struggling both politically and financially. I know first hand that the Indians have felt isolated from the US for a long time and there is a lot of potential there. 1.3 billion people need a lot of stuff. Same with South America and Africa.

If the US is proactive, we can still beat the Chinese to the market but the ChiComs are intent and intense on beating us there too.

We as Americans, need to focus on the real future and not get distracted by social and cultural biases. Somehow we need to get that message through to the media and the pols. We waste too much time and resources trying to get the gov't to be our brother's keeper.

Learn tolerence my babies. Quit trying to legislate and dictate to everyone how to live their lives...

Whoa, Sat1, an instant of sanity? You’re absolutely right about trying to beat the ChiComs to global markets. But how in the world do you do that when even the damned ChiComs don’t want to burden their free enterprise zones with taxes like we do to our own corporations and companies here? When the messiah talks about taxing the rich what he really means is chasing more investments offshore by taxing where the money is made. The Chinese aren’t stupid. They actually saw the difference between a country that tries to keep government out of business; business grows and the country is more prosperous and a country where the state runs everything and there is no prosperity. Yes, if only we could get the damn democrats and many republicans to learn the same lesson.

Once again, just providing info. I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight...
* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."
* Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a quintessential American story.
* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.
* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.
* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.
* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.
* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible. Or if your an old white senator you oppose protecting kindergartners from predators.
* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.
* If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude," with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.
* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.
* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.
* If you won't take campaign contributions from lobbyists, you're not in touch with average Americans.
* If your campaign is staffed by lobbyists, including your campaign manager, you're a maverick who is going to "shake up Washington."
* If you're achieving the American dream through hard work and persistence, your an elitist.
* If you can't remember how many homes you own, you're just like all the rest of us.
OK, it’s much clearer now.

Whaaa?????

Like silly chain letter this piece is making its way around the net and now you post it here. You think no one can make up a list just the opposite making Obama look like the political hack that he is and Michelle looking like the angry anti-american lassie that she is?

You must be young, sniffing too much Obama ether and contemptuous of the general electorate to post this silly, contrived list.

So be it. Clue: believing like you do, it is going to be rough on election night to process the reality of the Obama loss.

Let's start talking about this. We know how rabid you Obama people are so what do you have planned when he loses. it is going to be really hard, I can see that. I know you mugged the DNC with your threats of violence if you did not get your way. And you did.

But after this farce of a coronation of your candidate grinds to its sad conclusion for you, how will you take it? Do you have threats of violence, cooperation, a long pout, a period of respectful mourning, a ticket out of the country .........wazzzup, Whaaaa?????

Got another question for you, Whaaa????

What the heck did Obama give back to Fanniemae, Freddymac, Lehman Bros and AIG for the over million dollars in special interest money they showered on this first term, voting absent, Senator from Chicago?

How thick is Obama, Rezko and the Iraqi billionaire who owns a lot of Lehman Bros stock?

Why didn't BHO as a member of the Congressional Black Caucus who was warned in 2005 about Fanniemae troubles on video do anything to help prevent this meltdown now squarely laid upon their poor lending practices?

How do all these things relate to your man and his "list" of sterling attributes?

No wonder BHO had to buy time with a teleprompter speech on the "economy" rather than have a public press conference that would expose him to answering questions about his own deep complicity in this mess, and what he did with all those dollars he got from these very people.

What exactly does "special interest" money mean to BHO? I know he does not include massive union money as "special interest money. But gheesh, millions from Fanniemae, Freddymac, Lehman Bros and AIG? To a first term senator, and almost as much as they unloaded on Chris Dodds who is chairman of the Senate Banking Committee?

And Barack Obama gets the second largest contributiions in the entire US Senate from these very same people?

Wazzzup, Whaaaa??????
