Travis Armstrong Resigns from the Santa Barbara News-Press

Had to come out of retirement for this one. Apparently, Travis Armstrong has resigned from the News-Press. What's next? How did it happen? Did Miss Yolanda walk him out the door to a chorus of expletives? I doubt it -- I think Travis saw the writing on the wall about himself, about declining circulation...maybe even a pending sale (assuming the court cases are handled). More on this at Craig Smith and other news outlets this weekend.

Opening a bottle of champagne....

whooo hoooooooooo--------feels like a grainy lens is being lifted from Santa Barbara. Those of us who have endured the spiteful, often delusional, bitter ramblings of this maniac couldn't be happier. Who knows? Maybe Wendy without Travis won't be near as bad.
Hall a f-in lu la!

Hot dog diggity dam. What a time to take a hiatus S.D.L.G. and T.A. is reportedly...gone! Looking toward the future but with the owner I have concern about a successor. Still hoping Miller-McCune could get a hold of that paper and return it to local ownership and with an eye towards journalistic ethics. A wall between the NewsRoom and the editorial pages would be a great start regardless. Reinstate the reporters too! McCaw Obey the .......

Travis was the best thing that's happened to Santa Barbara in a long, long time. Hopefully the void his departure creates will not be filled by those who still seem addicted to the status quo hypocrites who he so eloquently exposed.

Don...Bill...nice to hear from you :)

Emerita -- don't think Blum would be into the job!

I'm not sorry to see Travis go but this celebration over his departure is silly. Travis was two things for the News-Press: The ham-fisted enforcer and the lightning rod for a lot of stuff. Do you really think things will be different now? Of course they won't be. The News-Press will remain a petty, vindictive, irresponsible vanity press as long as you-know-who is in charge.

Good riddance to Travis, wonder who his replacement is Nipper?

Note that the N-P's "salute" to him spoke of what TA railed against, without saying he was in favor of anything. That would include analysis and linking cause with effect, as opposed to seeing conspiracy in coincidence and venom everywhere, except, perhaps, where Randall von Wolfswinkel went, or should I say, spent. That was just a benign half a mil lavished on the fortunate candidates by a benevolent Texas rich fellow. Imagine what Trav might have spewed if Oprah -- or OMG, an out-of-town personage -- had spent that kind of bank on a progressive candidate in the SB City race.

Anon--- I completely understand the rejoicing that many of us are experiencing. Those who for NINE YEARS have lived under the hostile, bitter rantings of a man who attacked unrelentingly and quite personally, for no reason. And would not permit even a letter in response, or a conversation over coffee with his victims. He stifled and distorted public discourse in a community that for decades had thrived on it. So yes, we rejoice. Hard to imagine Wendy could find another editor who would match Armstrong's twisted vision.

Anyone who thinks the Munchkins don't deserve to sing out with "Ding, dong, the witch is dead," at the news of Armstrong's departure, however it occurred, doesn't really know Armstrong. When he left the San Jose Mercury to come to Wendyland, his colleagues gave him a farewell party - AFTER he left!

The community-- those who he "named" as enemies and all the rest deserve to celebrate---perhaps in de la Guerra Plaza sometime next week?? in view of his now empty office? ahh this is so sweeet

Armstrong = one down, four to go: Steepleton, Apodaca, Von Wiesenberger, and last but not least, McCaw. She does not have a clue about the newspaper business and, sadly, never will.

Sara; nice to have you back... I am also waiting for tid bits of TA info to surface. I was wondering while looking at channel 18 and waiting for election results if you're considering a roundup of this "crazier than Sarah Palin" ciudad de Santa Barbara election?
