KEYT Coverage Weak

Did anyone else think KEYT's election coverage was weak? Why were candidates listed in alphabetical order rather than whether they were first, second or third? How confusing was that? In just showing percentages (which they failed to update for several hours throughout the night) -- they also missed out on the close third place race in Goleta. How could they not report on that?

This whine about KEYT (pace yourself with them, Sara) only makes sense to see the video. Here is the link:

http://www.keyt.com/news/local/4589556.html

Their presentation of the returns out of numeric sequence was indeed dumb, plus the inability to pronounce many of the names. But they did devote 14 continuous minutes to election coverage before the first commercial break. Palminteri chased the Sheriff returns in Lompoc, which indeed was a huge story, but his late night piece had no interviews.

Still, at least KEYT has video at their web site, unlike KSBY, ch. 6!

Yes, very weak - I gave up and went to the LWV SmartChoice web site.

What's happening to the media? The News-Suppress, KEYT which concentrates on crime and trivia, and the LA Times just firing yesterday its editor?

One could think there was a conspiracy to keep the people from knowing anything. At least there are the blogs but that's a limited audience. Isn't it/aren't we?

Santa Maria Times had full results of all the races on its Web site by midnight or 1 a.m. Apparently not all media are trying to keep us in the dark.

That's great! Didn't say they were...and KEYT did well with covering the Sheriff and 2nd District parties. I just didn't want to have to mix and match candidates in my head from three different screen shots to figure out who won. Zerogoaler -- maybe that wasn't the 11 o'clock news...

Dear John Palminteri,

I look forward to seeing you on Saturday, for the candlelight vigil in support of illegally fired News-Press senior reporter Melinda Burns, who has been a key union organizer.

Bring your KEY3 cameras! Should be fascinating, especially with Wendy expected on the premises ...

It's at 5:15 p.m. at the Biltmore, outside the annual News-Press "Lifetime Achievement Awards."

If you need more information, I just caught an update at the Web site of the organized newsroom ...

www.savethenewspress.com.

There's some info there.

You can also link from there to an online petition demanding Melinda be reinstated. Good stuff. Hundreds of people have signed today alone. Could make a good story in itself.

Any savvy media watcher knows SB as NO station. The Smith family sold out to Oxnard / Ventura years ago...the focus and ad dollars are tilted that direction. Don't KEYT viewers wonder why we have to hear about Simi Valley and Oxnard arrests? It's all about money folks. So, here is SB, we are left with no media (which is why we actually watch public access!)...But Sara you are the future...it's the blogs and the webs that will bring us the news in this part of the world! And yet the blogs and web are filled with reports rife with opinion presented as fact, anonymous attacks and misinformation. Editorial standards are lower than those of the news-press. Makes the future of "news" look pretty bleak to me.

What a stupid statement. Just because I'm a retiree doesn't mean I want fluff. I certainly expect more but that's what you get when you live in a media market like Santa Barbara.

Cut KEYT a break. I mean they are working with 2 and a half reporters and three cameras from the late 80's. I mean come on, when we have better equipment at city college... how good can their stuff be. It is amazing that the chewing gum and duct tape hasn't fallen off.

Yeah - that's about the only news you get on KEYT - the weather. 12 does a better job on SB news.
