Greka Oil Says County Ordinance 'Unconstitutional'?

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

A KEYT News reports says that Greka thinks the county ordinance designed to shut down repeat spill offenders in unconstitutional....they are even running some ineffective talking head TV ads with their CEO with zombie-like employees in the background.

When will they learn?

Ooops! They Did It Again! Greka Oil Spills 600 Gallons

I'm kind of tired of doing these posts about new oil spills at Greka -- when will they be shut down for good? They don't deserve to be in business....this from KEYT News video:

A HAZMAT crew is trying to clean up a 600 gallon oil spill at the Greka oil facility near Los Alamos. The spill happened around 3:20 p.m. Friday on Palmer Road, just east of Highway 101.

Initial reports indicated only 10 to 15 barrels of crude oil spilled, but now, county fire officials say up to 2,000 gallons of toxic produced water and 600 gallons of crude leaked from an eight-inch underground production line.

The CHP has shut down Palmer Road to all traffic at the 101 on the west end, and Dominion Road on the east end.

Oops! It happened again...when will they learn?

Maybe now the North County Supervisors will listen to Supervisor Janet Wolf -- an EdHat citizen journalist reports that Greka did it again. Greka just chose a new CEO -- should we give him the benefit of the doubt? I hope he gets their act together....

Oops! They Did It Again!

Britney couldn't have said it better than the great headline from The Santa Barbara Independent on Greka Oil's next spill. Did any of us think that with their record it wouldn't happen again?

Irony upon irony, the spill was sadly spent on a creek bordering Firestone Vineyard. The vineyard was only until recently owned by County Supervisor Brooks Firestone...who recently voted with North County conservatives to let Greka pass go and collect $200 when Supervisor Wolf asked for a serious hearing on the matter. How often does Greka have to spill for our friends to the North to agree that this is a serious problem with a business that is clearly run as well as Enron ran their finances? Although I have at times been critical, kudos to Assembly Member Pedro Nava for trying to do something about it.

Greka Oil Needs to Be Shut Down

A concerned reader points out that The Santa Maria Times reports that Greka Oil spilled 800 barrels of oil and industrially tainted water into a creekbed in their second incident within 20-minutes on Friday. This should raise serious concerns among County of Santa Barbara officials as it is the second time in less than a month that their facility has been shut down.

UPDATE 12/11: The Board of Supervisors will be holding a hearing this morning on the subject matter above this morning. Although the board is meeting in Santa Maria, one can testify via video from the Santa Barbara hearing room if one desires. As this is being heard as a departmental item -- the Environmental Defense Center is asking for a full hearing on Greka's compliance and accident history.
